Dental Implants

Dental Implants act as permanent anchors for the root portion of lost teeth. Dr. Baker provides surgical placement of dental implants in her Norcross periodontal practice.

A dental implant is made of titanium or other biocompatible material, allowing it to work with the body's natural healing processes. Dr. Baker places the dental implant into the supportive bone during a surgical appointment. The goal of dental implant placement is to encourage growth of the surrounding bony cells to hold the implant firmly in place, a process known as osseointegration.

The dental implant is restored by the general dentist with a crown, bridge or denture. Once restored, it can make an extraordinary difference in the patient's ability to chew, speak and smile with confidence. Because they serve as a fixed attachment, dental implants are the ideal solution for locking removable dentures firmly in place and improving quality of life for the denture wearer.

The Periodontist's Role

As a Periodontist, Dr. Susan Baker has received advanced training in dental implant procedures and the intricacy of the tissues of the periodontium. The Periodontist is responsible for providing services to stabilize the implant site as well as placement of the dental implant. In some cases, surgical procedures such as tissue or bone grafts may be necessary to create a suitable foundation for the implant. Dr. Baker and our Clinical Team offer complete and comfortable surgical periodontal care in our Norcross dental office.

Careful Planning is the Key

Dr. Baker selects the type and size of dental implant best suited for your smile based on a thorough analysis of your jaw bone, supportive gum tissues and bite. Our facility is equipped with i-CAT® diagnostic imaging, which Dr. Baker uses routinely to study a 3-D digital image of your jaw bone, teeth and facial structures.

As part of the implant planning process, Dr. Baker will share her findings and treatment plan with your general dentist or prosthodontist to coordinate pre-production of temporary crowns, dentures or other dental prosthetics. By communicating in this manner with your team of dentists, you can often leave after your appointment with natural-looking temporary teeth.

Dental implants may be the solution you have been waiting for.
